This year, I finally went camping for the very first time with Andrew and some friends right before the end of camping season at the MacKerricher State Park in Fort Bragg (Mendocino County). Luckily, they have camping experiences so we were not too worried. Being my first time, I did a ton of research on camping gears hoping to make this experience as comfortable as possible. I quickly learned that it's a whole new world- they used specs that I'm unfamiliar with (temperature rating) and there were many details that only the experienced can tell you to pay attention to. On top of that, camping gears are very expensive. I ended up going with the Stoic Madrone 2 Tent and the Stoic Groundwork Double Sleeping Bag. They seemed to be very good options for people who are new to the camping world and are not expecting to go anywhere with extreme weather. I also got Klymit's Insulated Double V air mattress but we had trouble pumping it up with the pump bag it came with. The Pinewood campground was fairly flat and clean. and it had showers and bathrooms close by. It was also located right next to the beach, it was only a 6-minute walk to get to the beach from our campsite. I wouldn't say I slept well that night due to my own anxiety but it was definitely cozy enough. Sitting around the bonfire playing games and singing together was definitely the highlight of our trip. It was amazing to see everyone's hidden talents. Even though we definitely over-prepared for this short weekend trip, there are a few things that I didn't prepare but definitely wish we'd have in the future. String lights would be a great addition, especially if we are filming a lot at night. The light from the lamps was not very appealing and the light from the bonfire wasn't really enough. We also didn't prepare enough external batteries to charge our gear. We were both running low on our batteries even just for this short trip. A portable butane stove would also be great to bring since it's a huge hassle to start a bonfire simply to cook coffee or hot water. Thanks for making our first camping trip such a nice experience that I actually really look forward to camping more in the future! 🙂 Thanks for watching my video!
