In this video I show you how I measure for the perfect harness fit—so you don’t end up with a harness that rubs, slides around, or straight-up pops off mid-walk. All you need is a tape measure or soft ruler (and if you’re like me and you’ve got a fluffy situation going on, a string + ruler works too). I walk you through the main spots most harness brands care about: the lower neck and the belly/chest area. And if you’re shopping for something like a raincoat or a sled dog harness, I also mention how length can matter. My biggest fit rule is the “two-finger check”: I should be able to fit two fingers at the neck, chest, and especially around the upper arms. Too tight can cause chafing and make walks miserable, and too loose means the harness can slide side-to-side or even come all the way off. I also share the stuff that’s saved me the most time—measure twice (angles matter a lot on fluffy dogs), size up if you’re between sizes, and always check the brand’s sizing chart because I’ve been a medium in some gear and an extra large in others. After the first few walks, I always check for rubbing under the armpits and around the chest so I can fix problems early.
