It's the official start of the 10K budget YJ build! We're starting off strong, with a major upgrade to the rear axle. We're swapping out the stock Dana 35 for a stronger ford 8.8 rear axle. But along the way, things don't go as planned and we end up also putting on boomerang shackles, a new skid plate for the gas tank. This project took a while to get done, but it was worth it. ▶️ For business inquiries: matt.brodiemedia@gmail.com Watch the full YJ Build Series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_xMxMdMNP31j_YjVt8vDinxsRT0wnAXb Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNhmsdZxWGbsNZYLNncb9Bg/join Shop the Merch: http://www.simplymustgo.shop OnX Offroad 20% off: https://webmap.onxmaps.com/purchase/offroad/membership/?promo=simplymustgo My deals on other great products: https://bio.site/MattBrodie See all the camera, Jeep and camping gear I use: https://www.amazon.com/shop/simplymustgo Music licensed by Soundstripe: https://soundstripe.grsm.io/MattBrodie Disclaimer: Some of the links above are affiliate links, where I earn a small commission if you purchase an item. About This Video

This is the official start of my 10K budget YJ build, and I’m not wasting any time doing “small stuff” first. In this part of the series I tackle a big weak link right out of the gate: the stock Dana 35 rear axle. The plan is simple—swap in a stronger Ford 8.8 so the YJ can actually take trail time without me constantly wondering when the rear end is going to give up. Of course, it wouldn’t be a real garage day if everything went perfectly. Along the way, the project snowballs (in a good way) and I end up adding boomerang shackles and a new skid plate for the gas tank too. It took a while to get it all buttoned up, but it was worth it—this is the kind of “budget build” progress I like: spend where it matters, upgrade the known problem areas, and keep moving toward a Jeep that’s trail-ready and dependable. If you’re building a YJ on a budget, this is exactly the kind of rear-end and underbody upgrade path that makes sense before you start piling on miles.
