In this one I’m rolling through one of my favorite corners of the Great Smoky Mountains—Cades Cove—and then taking the less-traveled way out on Parson Branch Road. If you’ve ever been stuck in the slow crawl of the main loop, you already know why this matters. Parson Branch is an 8-mile, one-way gravel road that feels way more “back there” than you’d expect inside a national park, and it’s a solid little adventure without needing anything extreme. I’m out there doing what I always do: soaking up the views, hunting for wildlife (yes, I’m hoping for black bears), and trying to snag some photos along the way. The drive mixes wide-open valley scenery in Cades Cove with tighter forest, multiple shallow creek crossings, and that remote, quiet vibe that makes you forget how popular the Smokies can be. If you’re planning your own trip, the big takeaway is simple—Cades Cove is gorgeous, but Parson Branch Road is the move when you want a more rugged, less-crowded exit with a little extra fun behind the wheel.
