Winter hits fast in Michigan, so in this video I get my Tesla ready for the cold by swapping off my regular setup and going to a dedicated winter package: Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3s that I bought directly from Tesla. Tesla will actually include an install appointment at your local Service Center, which is pretty convenient, but I chose to take mine to Discount Tire instead—because they’ll install them for free and I wanted to show what that process looks like. Before anything got mounted, they checked tread depth right there in the shop. Two tires came in at 8/32" and the other two were 9/32", which is totally normal for new tires. I also go over what makes these Sottozero 3s different: they’re directional winter tires with that arrow-style tread pattern and a ton of sipes meant to bite into snow, push slush out of the way, and keep traction strong once temps drop below about 45°F. My early takeaway is that this is a performance-focused winter tire, so you’re not giving up that sporty Tesla feel—but you’re gaining a lot more confidence when the weather turns.
