Today I'm setting up 2 shrimp tanks with an extremely fast method which only takes 7 days to cycle! Would it really work? Let's find it out! This unique technique I've got from my friend Darick Koh, a shrimp breeder and aquarium shop owner in Singapore whom I visited earlier this year. All the products I've used in this video are available in his store including his own aquasoil which I'm testing in this video. 🦐 Check out my website for high-quality shrimp, breeding essentials & expert advice! 👉 https://www.shrimpmania.co.uk My eBay shop: USA: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_dkr=1&iconV2Request=true&_blrs=recall_filtering&_ssn=shrimp_mania&_oac=1 UK: https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/shrimp_mania Acrylic UGF box full set: USA: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266854936157 UK: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266977713781 DSP Bacterial powder to grow green walls and biofilm: USA: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266500610826 UK: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266500610826 Shrimp food that I'm using and highly recommended (from Tai Cheng) USA: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266813404804 UK: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266813404804 Cool 3D shrimp net: USA: https://www.ebay.com/itm/266766271381 UK: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266766213337 Buy me a coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/shrimpmania Become a member: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1eVAR-YLL1pPotMLjvyOlA/join Shrimps Affair Address: Blk 801 #01-37 French Road, Singapore Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ShrimpsAffair/ Shrimps Affair bacterial powder for growing biofilm and green walls is also available in my eBay shop: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266500610826 Shrimp food that I'm using and highly recommended (from Tai Cheng) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266554881959 My second YouTube channel in case you are interested @shrimpmaniadaily Follow me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/shrimpmania777 Thanks for watching!

About This Video

Normally it takes me around 10 weeks to cycle and fully mature a new shrimp tank, but when I visited Shrimps Affair in Singapore, Darick told me his soil can be ready in 5–7 days. So I brought it back to the UK and tested this “7-day cycle” method by setting up two new shrimp tanks using an acrylic UGF box, Shrimps Affair soil (two-pack method), RO water, and my usual bacterial powder that I’ve used for years. After one week I did a massive water change (around 90%) and added shrimp very slowly—about 10 at first, then more each week. The tanks grew biofilm and green walls fast, and the shrimp were straight away grazing, which is exactly what I want for baby survival. I did notice ammonia was still present for quite a while (zero nitrite and zero nitrate at first), but with the low pH (around 5.4–5.5) the ammonia is less toxic, and the shrimp stayed active. I did make mistakes though: I overstocked the Yellow Galaxy tank and even got green water/bacterial bloom, so I had to use a UV filter and be more careful. By week five the parameters finally normalized and ammonia went away, and by week eight both tanks were stable and even breeding. Would I use this method again? Yes—but I’d be extra careful with stocking, feeding, and I wouldn’t start with super sensitive, expensive shrimp.
