In this video I’m looking at the RYOBI PCL780 ONE+ 18V cordless pool vacuum, and I’ll be honest—I originally thought of it as a homeowner tool. We ran it in our own pool for a while, and then Andy from Aqua Squad (Lakeland, FL) completely changed my perspective on where this thing fits on the commercial side. It’s dead simple: slap an 18V battery on (it’s waterproofed in the compartment), run it by hand or on a pool pole, and you’ve got a nimble way to handle spot cleaning without dragging out the big, expensive equipment. Andy’s use case is what makes this interesting: spas, smaller pools, and properties where you physically can’t get a large commercial vac into the backyard. The head has bristles and front rollers, and the bristles actually matter—if you use them to loosen debris, the vacuum does a really solid job picking up sand and residue out of corners and crevices. The filter setup is also straightforward: a screen for larger debris and a pleated filter for finer stuff, and it’s quick to pull and rinse between stops. Big takeaway: this isn’t replacing a true commercial vacuum, but as a secondary/backup tool it’s legit. At $159 (tool-only), if you’re already on the RYOBI ecosystem, it’s an easy add—especially with the runtime Andy saw on a single 4Ah battery.
