About This Video

This video is my long-term review of the Apple Pencil (1st Generation) after using it for over half a decade. It’s honestly one of the funniest and greatest Apple products ever invented… and yes, I have the “peasant version.” I go over what it’s like to live with the Gen 1 Pencil day-to-day: the shape and durability (I’ve seen these get dropped all over the place in college and keep working), how the tip holds up, and why I still enjoy writing with it because it tracks tiny movements really accurately—almost like writing on paper, just on a glossy screen. Of course, we have to talk about the elephant in the room: charging. I break down the Lightning port situation, the awkward “stick it into the iPad” method (it works in a bind, but it feels unsafe), and the dongle Apple included that almost nobody brings up. I also cover battery life after 6 years (still around a full workday for me, though I do charge it a bit more often now), plus the accessories I used to keep it looking pristine. My takeaway: if you’re on an older iPad that supports it, yes—I’d still recommend the Apple Pencil Gen 1. If you’re buying a newer iPad, grab the newer Pencil because Apple improved this a lot.
