In this episode we take Storm, our BMW R1300 GSA, across the famous Rainbow Road in the South Island of New Zealand, a remote backcountry route that cuts through mountains, rivers, valleys and high-country stations deep in the Marlborough region. To enter, you actually have to pay a toll at the gate before crossing one of the country’s most scenic adventure roads. The Rainbow Road is only open seasonally and is known for its gravel sections, river crossings, huge landscapes and complete isolation. Stretching between Hanmer Springs and St Arnaud, it has become legendary among adventure riders, overlanders and road trip travellers exploring New Zealand’s South Island.
