We Took Our Motorcycle Across One Of The World’s Roughest Ferry Crossings

RTW S6 EP9 | Entering New Zealand’s South Island Cook Strait is often described as one of the world’s roughest ferry crossings, and in this episode we take our motorcycle from Wellington to Picton as we officially enter New Zealand’s South Island. Crossing between the North Island and South Island, the Cook Strait ferry is used every day by cars, campervans, motorhomes, trucks and motorcycles travelling between Wellington and Picton. The journey through the Marlborough Sounds is considered one of the most scenic ferry routes in the world, connecting the Tasman Sea with the Pacific Ocean in famously unpredictable waters. After arriving in Picton, we continue our ride south on our BMW R1300 GSA, heading along the spectacular coastline toward Kaikōura. This stretch of South Island road is known for its ocean views, mountain backdrops and the famous Kaikōura seal colony, where New Zealand fur seals gather just metres from the roadside.
