Instead of taking the highway, we explore lesser-used forest roads and quiet backcountry routes before arriving in the capital city. Along the way, we stop at the famous Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu — often called the longest place name in the world — a uniquely New Zealand landmark that had to be ticked off before leaving the North Island. This journey forms part of our three-year motorcycle world tour, riding two-up on a single BMW R1300 GSA as we document every mile across continents.
