Hotel Wi-Fi is a mess: you’re sharing a network with strangers, it’s often badly configured, and you never really know if someone’s watching traffic or running a fake network with a similar name. In this video, I show you how I turn a Windows laptop into a VPN-protected “Wi-Fi bubble” that works like a travel router—without buying extra hardware, carrying another gadget, or dealing with hotel device limits. The key is doing it in the right order and not missing the one tiny Windows setting that decides if your “secure hotspot” is real or fake. I connect to the hotel Wi-Fi first (and complete the captive portal login), then connect Private Internet Access (PIA) and turn on Windows Mobile Hotspot (ideally on 2.4 GHz so older devices and consoles can see it). Finally, I open Network Connections (ncpa.cpl) and share the PIA adapter to the Mobile Hotspot adapter via the Sharing tab—this forces hotspot traffic to route through the VPN instead of bypassing it. I also show how to verify it worked with an IP check and what to do if your devices connect but have no internet.
