In this video I’m checking out a new on-camera monitor and walking through the kind of things I always look for when I’m deciding if a monitor is actually worth throwing on a rig. Even though this is a quick “check it out” style video, my focus is the practical stuff: how it fits into a real filmmaking workflow, what it helps you see that your camera screen doesn’t, and why a monitor can be one of the biggest quality-of-life upgrades for shooting documentaries, events, or any run-and-gun setup. When I’m testing a monitor, I’m thinking about usability first—how fast I can get it mounted, how easy it is to judge exposure and focus, and whether it’s going to slow me down or make me faster on set. A good monitor should make framing and focus more confident, especially when you’re moving fast or shooting in tricky light.
