The evidence is strong : coaching works and it has been shown to have huge benefits. Yet, many smart people avoid coaching in this video I explore the reasons why.. - They are resistant to discomfort: our brain and nervous system are designed to keep us safe and to avoid discomfort or threat therefore we often avoid those things which may be challenging - You can't hide : when you have a great coach they will act like a mirror and explore what is going on for you. There is no hiding here/ - You may have to face up to uncomfortable truths you've been avoiding : for example maybe you're not as happy in your relationship or your working life as you've been pretending or maybe you're working too much yet are struggling to switch off - The "should" trap : often you tell yourself you should be able to sort everything on your own avoiding asking for help When we avoid we keep things "safe" and this can therefore stop us having that deep personal reflection and going after what we really want. It's normal to avoid discomfort yet this is often the space where we learn the most. I'd love to know what have you been avoiding?
