Directed by Michael Bay, The Island is a 2005 science fiction action thriller and dystopian drama starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. Set in a mid-21st century facility, the story follows Lincoln Six Echo and Jordan Two Delta, residents of a sterile, controlled environment who believe they are among the last survivors of a global ecological catastrophe. They live for the hope of winning a lottery to go to The Island, the final uncontaminated paradise on Earth. However, Lincoln discovers a dark conspiracy: they are actually human clones, or harvesters, created as insurance policies to provide organ transplants for their wealthy sponsors. The narrative shifts into a high-octane chase film as Lincoln and Jordan escape the facility into the real world, pursued by a lethal security team led by Albert Laurent (Djimon Hounsou). The screenplay, influenced by themes of corporate greed and medical ethics, explores the philosophical implications of identity and the soul. As the clones navigate a futuristic Los Angeles, they seek out Lincoln’s original sponsor, Tom Lincoln, to expose the Merrick Biotech corporation.
