Directed by Roger Donaldson, Dantes Peak is a 1997 disaster thriller that stands out for its commitment to geological accuracy and practical miniature effects. The plot stars Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Harry Dalton, a vulcanologist for the United States Geological Survey who is sent to investigate low-level seismic activity in the Pacific Northwest town of Dantes Peak. While the idyllic community is celebrating being named one of the best places to live in America, Daltons scientific instruments reveal that the long-dormant stratovolcano towering over the town is on the verge of a catastrophic eruption.
