About This Video

I’ve been using the Patagonia Black Hole Duffel 55L for over two years now, and this video is basically my long-term, real-world take after camping, traveling, and hauling gear all over the place with it. I walk through the outside features first—stuff like the daisy chains, the beefy carry handles (double stitched and seriously robust), the top snap closure, and the one external zip pocket. I also talk materials: it’s a heavy-duty 900D fabric with a TPU coating, so it’s very water resistant (not waterproof), and the lid design helps keep water from dumping straight into the zipper. Then I get into the inside layout and why I keep calling it a “black hole.” The big mesh pocket under the lid is great for separating things like dirty clothes or shoes, and the main compartment just swallows gear. I literally pull out a giant pile—shirts, sweats, bulky flannel, toiletries, mic kit, rain jackets—and the bag still wasn’t even packed to max capacity. I also show the self-stuff feature where it packs into its own pocket (doable, but kind of a fight because the TPU material is stiff). Bottom line: it’s spendy for a duffel, but mine has basically zero wear so far, and I’d expect it to last a long time.
