About This Video

In this video I break down my long-term experience with the Benchmade 940 Osborne—specifically the REI edition that’s essentially a 940-2 with G10 scales and an open backspacer. I’ve carried and used this knife for about a year and a half to two years, and I go over what’s actually great about it in real daily use, plus the stuff that bugs me. I’ll be honest: the looks never totally grabbed me at first (the angles and shape felt a little awkward), but the performance has absolutely won me over. I talk about why the 940 is such a solid utilitarian EDC: a sturdy, thick blade and tip, a long flat section that gives you a lot of slicing travel, and that top ridge that I end up using more than expected for scraping paint, rust, and whatever else. The Axis lock has been smooth and reliable for me, with basically no play front-to-back and only a tiny, barely-noticeable side-to-side movement over time. I also compare G10 vs aluminum scales, show how it rides in the pocket (not deep-carry), and mention my one real complaint: I dropped it early on and the G10 at the tip cracked/peeled a bit. It hasn’t worsened, but if you want maximum durability, the aluminum-handled versions are worth considering—even though this knife is definitely an investment at around $200+.
