About This Video

Hello friends, Heidi here from Rain Country. God is good all the time. In this video I’m talking about why LED lights can (and in a lot of places should) have their place, even though I understand the concerns about health impacts—because the same kinds of concerns also apply to fluorescent lights and LCD screens. I’m not doing an exposé here; I’m sharing how I’ve learned to find a proper balance between LEDs, fluorescents, and natural flame light depending on your home, your family, and your real-life needs. We’re partially off-grid with solar, but we still have public power—and we get a ton of outages. Fuel lanterns (I use clean heat in my Feuerhand lanterns) give a more natural light that’s easier on the eyes, but they also bring fire risk, heat, and placement issues—especially with kids, pets, trailers, or tight spaces. LEDs, on the other hand, can be placed almost anywhere safely, use less power, and are incredibly useful for quick, bright light during outages—especially flashlights and task lights. I also share what’s been hardest on my eyes: LCD screens. Video editing up close did more damage to me than switching our house lighting to LEDs ever did. What helped most was distance, natural window light, taking breaks to look outside, and using warm lighting (like salt lamps) to give my eyes a rest.
