Welcome to my new house—this video is basically the full story of my two-sided fireplace makeover (and yes… all my DIY fails along the way). When we moved in, the fireplace was green with honey oak, brass details, black trim, and tile, and it just felt outdated for the modern, cozy look I’m going for. Since it’s the focal point for both the living room and dining room, I’ve been really intentional about not letting other decor compete with it. I walk you through every phase: using an AI app for inspo, priming and painting, trying a soft black (Sherwin Williams Greenblack), and then realizing it was getting way too dark for my space—especially with other black furniture I brought in. I also tested those peel-and-stick faux marble panels from Amazon to get that elevated look on a budget. They looked good at first, but once the sunlight hit them, the bumps and ripples gave “totally fake,” and it started to bother me. I show you what worked, what didn’t (like my blotchy stain disaster on the mantle), and why I pivoted to warmer paint tones like Neutral Ground and Accessible Beige. My big takeaway: trust the process, but don’t be afraid to change course—because living with it for a bit will tell you what you actually love. Next up, I’m planning to try real marble tile from Lowe’s and a faux wood treatment on the mantle to get that timeless, contemporary look without spending a fortune.
