I ordered two sizes (one full and one half) to fit my space, added the top extensions to make it feel custom and taller, and chose doors with glass on top and solid panels on the bottom so I can decorate up top but still hide real-life storage down below. I share my favorite budget-friendly upgrades that instantly make a Billy look more luxe—swapping the cheap hardware for pretty gold knobs/handles, adding plug-in puck lights (with a remote and dimming!), and making sure everything is secure by connecting the units together and anchoring them to the wall. I also talk through extra ideas like adding trim, building a platform, or even doing mirrors on the bottom doors (I’ve done that in a past house and loved it). Then I decorate it in my newer “luxe glam” direction—mixing whites, golds, silvers, and soft neutrals so the whole thing doesn’t feel flat. I even spray-painted old black candlesticks gold (yes, spray paint is magic), and I show the cozy nighttime glow that makes this corner feel so warm and elevated without the splurge.
