In this video I’m kicking off my 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport project series with a retractable bed cover install. I just traded my RAV4 for this Tacoma in Underground Gray (one of my favorite colors), and I’m already liking it way more than my old 2019 Tacoma—mainly because the new 2.4L turbo and 8-speed actually shift like they’re supposed to. No more hanging up in gears, and with the tech package (big screen, 360 cameras, sensors everywhere, and the aux switches), it’s a solid platform for upgrades. For the install, I walk through getting the side rails and the cover “bin” assembled, and I call out the stuff the instructions completely fail to tell you. The big one: pull the cover out a little before bolting the bin to the rails, or you won’t be able to slide the cover out at all and you’ll be taking it back apart like I did. I also explain how I mount it to the Tacoma’s factory bed rail system, how I position everything before tightening, and why I’m skipping the drain tube holes (I’m not drilling into a brand new truck). At the end I show how the lock, latch positions, and tailgate clearance/adjustment work so you can get it closing right.
