Qatar Airways is famous for QSuites, but on my Doha to Vienna flight I didn’t get one—so I tested what most of you will actually end up in: Qatar’s Collins Aerospace Super Diamond seat on the Boeing 787-8. I walk you through the whole experience from the Al Mourjan Business Lounge “The Garden” (in the new Orchard terminal area) to a very hot remote-stand bus boarding, and then a surprisingly private last-row setup in Row 6 where there are only two middle seats. Onboard, I cover the seat details (storage, tray table, old-school but intuitive controls, individual air vents, footwell space), dine-on-demand service, and why my mint iced tea is basically a must-order on Qatar. The meal was genuinely standout—my lobster muraban was easily one of the best things I’ve eaten at 30,000 feet. I also show the snack station, lavatories with Diptyque toiletries, and the IFE which remains one of the best in the sky. For sleeping, the Super Diamond converts into a fully flat bed with a blanket and two pillows (no mattress pad or pajamas on this route). Wi‑Fi was the usual Qatar inconsistency: free messaging only, and paid data was expensive. Final verdict: even without QSuites, Qatar still delivered a top-tier business class experience—and the crew actually made this “lesser” product more enjoyable than my flagship QSuite flight.
