Much like... everything in fitness, some old beliefs have a hard time dying out. And perhaps one of the more resilient beliefs is that short rest intervals between sets is best for building muscle or muscle hypertrophy. The rationale tends to be around pushing more stimulus onto the muscle in a shorter duration so that it accumulates more stress and metabolic swelling, leading to an increase in growth. However, if we actually look into the science of it all, resting somewhere between, say, 30 to 60 seconds, things don't line up exactly as we might have been told. Perhaps it's time we clear the air once and for all and see what exactly is the best amount of time to rest between your sets if you want the best possible gains.
