We Retired Early at 38 | Financial Independence

2 months ago, we retired early at the age 38! We became millionaires and achieved financial independence on a low income, with 3 children under the age of 5. If we can have financial freedom, anyone can! In this video we share our family vlog of life in early retirement and walk through the good and the bad of financial independence. We celebrate our daughters Gwenevere's first birthday at Folly Beach and visit the Shell Tree that was just recently destroyed by a King Tide. Then we tour the Charleston Fire Department for a priceless homeschool lesson. Our Financial Independent Retire Early (FIRE) journey has lasted 15 years and we are finally experiencing the light at the end of the tunnel. Our new found freedom gives us flexibility in so many ways as we raise our three young children. The freedom to go on extended vacations and visit family for weeks at a time is simply priceless! We now have the time we desire to focus on building Holy City Family and this YouTube channel! Our investments are now getting the time and focus that they always needed and deserved. Amber and I get more invigorated by the FIRE movement (Financial Independence, Early Retirement) each day now that we have tasted financial independence and freedom to live the way we want. Our focus on cutting costs and budgeting has been renewed and is now a more critical aspect of our life. In October, we took another trip to North Carolina to visit family and celebrate our Birthdays! We even took a day trip to a magical place called Grayson Highlands in the Virginia mountains where wild horses run free and the land appears to be enchanted, out of a fairy tail. We carved pumpkins and celebrated Halloween when we returned home to our Holy City, Charleston, SC. Enjoy the looks on our children's faces as we trick or treat for the first time in our new neighborhood and celebrate with new friends! Though there are so many good things associated with early retirement and financial independence, we walk through some of the things we don't like and how we are feeling so far in our FIRE journey. There is a new sense of uncertainty and volatility around our income, which is caused by the stock market's very nature. We find ourselves thinking through contingency plans to prepare for future economic crashes or uncertain times over the next 60 years of our lives (we hope). The reality is that we will all experience market crashes every 5-10 years on average from here on out... better to have a plan and be prepared than let it sneak up on us.
