The important step was turning off auto-renew so you don’t get charged the normal price later. The problem is some people didn’t cancel—they went to their bank and refunded the $1 charge instead. That refund is what triggered Fortnite to claw back the V-Bucks and remove cosmetics bought with them. My takeaway: if you’re doing deals like this, follow the steps exactly—cancel, don’t refund.
