It was that time—time to take down my mini twists with human hair extensions, and yes… it was an experience. In this video I walk you through my full takedown process, the tools and products I used, and the little things that kept me from going crazy (like keeping everything sectioned and braiding each finished area into chunky braids). I also share what I would do differently next time, because at 18 inches my real hair was literally at the ends of some twists, so I had to be extra careful with my ends. I talk about why I actually enjoyed human hair over synthetic—this hair was softer, received moisture better, and honestly looked more natural as it aged (even with me being an active girly who sweats right in the scalp). I also get real about the biggest con of mini twists: takedown. If you share hair while twisting, you’re setting yourself up for knots, impatience, and breakage—so I show how I unravel from the bottom and slide the extension out when I didn’t share. At the end, I do a little “hair temperature check,” show the shedding I got after about three weeks, and share my honest thoughts on product buildup (especially from braid gel/edge control). Overall my hair felt pretty good, and the shedding looked normal for three weeks—but I’m definitely rethinking how heavy-handed I am with gel.
