In this video, I’m outside in the car on a beautiful day, and we’re getting into Rihanna’s newest venture: Fenty Hair. Twitter (okay… X) was twittering because people clocked that she trademarked “Fenty Hair” back in 2021, so this wasn’t random—she’s been planning. I talk about how Fenty already has a strong consumer base (makeup, perfume, skincare, lingerie, collabs), and because people generally feel good about the brand, I think this hair launch might actually go over well compared to some other celebrity hair care lines. I also get into the marketing conversation—because yes, people were like “Are we gonna see Rihanna’s scalp?” She posted that bowl-wash photo and folks accused it of being a wig, but her stylist said it was her real hair (platinum blonde right now). Then she was seen out with her natural hair, and I loved that because that’s how you promote hair care: show the hair coming out your scalp. From there, I browse the actual line (as of June 11, 2024 early access): shampoo, rinse-out conditioner, deep conditioner, repair treatment, 5-in-1 heat protectant, gel, edge control, and an edge brush. As a fine natural hair girl and a recovering product junkie, I’m reading ingredients and thinking twice—especially with coconut water and mango butter (my hair doesn’t love coconut or butters). The items that really catch my eye are the curling cream, the edge control, and that super cute brush, but I’m also side-eyeing the $36 repair treatment because… whew.
