About This Video

What’s up y’all, it’s your girl Nelia, and in this video I’m getting into mini twists on fine, thin natural hair—because if you’ve ever finished a twist set and thought “why do I look so scalpy?”, I get it. I break down what actually makes the biggest difference for my hair type (fine, medium density): part size and clean parting. I’ve tested different sizes over time and my sweet spot is either super small parts or medium parts, depending on the area. Then I show you the brick layering technique (I preach this one), because it helps the twists fall between each other so they look fuller and hide more scalp—especially on my thinner side. I also talk product selection for fine hair, because heavy products will have your twists looking stringy, greasy, and weighed down. I keep it simple with Eco Styler gel for hold and longevity, and I only “dip” into heavier butters like the Camille Rose Almond Jai—just a smidge, mainly for my ends. I compare blow-dried vs wet hair for twisting (blow-dried is faster for me and lasts longer), plus how I do quick touch-ups when I’m being super active. And if you’re still not feeling the density? I’m not above cheating the look—I show how I add a tiny bit of Marley hair using the invisible root method for a natural, slightly thicker finish.
