About This Video

In this video I’m prepping my fine natural hair for a long-lasting protective style (mini twists with a twist), and I’m taking y’all through it step-by-step from “it’s dirty mhm” to fully washed, stretched, and pre-parted. I start with a full detangle/pre-poo using Suave conditioner and a spray bottle mix, because taking the time to detangle before shampoo is a game changer for my growth. Some stuff in the natural hair community really is true, okay—and pre-pooing is one of the things that actually stuck and worked for me. After that, I wash with the Carol’s Daughter Goddess Strength shampoo and conditioner (I love this line, it smells good and does the job), then I go back in with the TGIN Honey Miracle Mask for moisture. I deep condition with heat using my Hot Head cap (I let it sit about an hour), then I keep my leave-in lightweight with the SheaMoisture Manuka Honey spray and layer a heat protectant primer before blow drying. I’m a Dyson girly, so I use the comb attachment to get my hair straight enough for an easy install—no silk press vibes needed. Then I do my night-before scalp and ends routine (Blue Magic on the ends, sulfur ointment where I get itchy), and the next day I tackle the “worst part”: parting. I use a simple sectioning method, a trifold mirror, lots of clips/scrunchies, and I flat twist sections out of the way so my parts stay clean.
