In this video I’m breaking down 5 things I STOPPED doing to my fine natural hair that honestly changed my whole growth journey. My hair is thicker, fuller, and growing faster, and a lot of it came down to little habits I didn’t realize were working against me. While I’m talking, I’m also doing my hair, so it’s super real-time—bonnet hair, ends, and all. First, I cut way back on wash and gos because the single strand knots were out of control—especially in the “kitchen”/nape area. I started leaning more into twist outs and that alone helped me stop trimming so much. I also stopped doing the L.O.C. method because on my fine, low porosity hair it was just too heavy; L.C.O. works better for me. Then I stopped over-oiling my scalp (I’m talking daily oiling) because it was actually making my hair feel drier and starting a whole cycle. I also took a break from detangling with certain tools—specifically the Tangle Teezer—and focused on finger detangling for months, then switched to the Felicia Leatherwood brush when I did use a tool. And lastly, I had to look at what I was putting in my body: for me, birth control was a big factor in my thinning, texture changes, and why I eventually did a big chop and started over.
