About This Video

This is one of those videos that’s completely unscripted and unedited—just me talking straight to the camera because I feel like you deserve to know what’s going on behind the scenes. Earlier this year my wife, Celestea (my best friend and the person who supports this channel more than anyone), was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She had a thyroidectomy in April, and thankfully her voice was intact and the surgery went well. Not long after that, a routine mammogram led to more testing, and what started as ductal carcinoma turned into a much scarier diagnosis: triple negative breast cancer, with lymph nodes testing positive as well. We went through the PET scan process and, thankfully, it showed no spread beyond what we already knew about. Right now we’re in the middle of a 22-week chemotherapy regimen (we’re four weeks in), and after chemo she’ll have a mastectomy—most likely a double mastectomy so we can stop living on edge. The takeaway for you is this: I’m not going away, but I am cutting back. I’ll aim for at least one video a month, focusing on gear content that still brings value without taking me away from my family as much. I’m grateful you’ve made it possible for me to do this full-time, and I’m asking for your continued support—and your thoughts for my wife as we get through this.
