About This Video

In this video I’m digging into the dirty details behind the Gore‑Tex class action lawsuit that claims WL Gore misled customers with a greenwashing campaign around PFAS/PFCs. I also show you the jacket I ran through my homemade rain chamber while testing how widespread these “forever chemicals” really are. PFAS have been linked to thyroid, kidney, and liver damage, immune disorders, developmental effects, and cancer—and what surprised me most is how easily they show up in everyday life, not just outdoor gear. To make this practical, I walk through what you can do right now: test your water and your blood, and actually reduce exposure at home. I explain what to look for in a water filter (NSF standards 53 or 58, and why “NSF certified” doesn’t automatically mean it targets PFAS). Then I share my own before-and-after water results using an under-sink setup—my tap had multiple PFAS compounds, and after filtering I had none detected at all. Finally, I talk about the uncomfortable question: what to do with old Gore‑Tex. There aren’t good disposal options, and older gear can shed more PFAS, so I’m weighing the tradeoffs between keeping functional gear versus replacing it and creating more environmental impact.
