We Tried to Make Baked Ziti… But We Couldn’t Find Ziti 🇺🇸🍝 We set out to make one of America’s most loved comfort foods… baked ziti. But we ran into a problem we didn’t expect here in the UK — we couldn’t find ziti anywhere. So we had to ask… 👉 Does it actually matter if you use penne instead? 👉 Are we about to ruin a classic American dish? As a British family obsessed with American food, this is exactly the kind of challenge we love — taking iconic US comfort food and trying to recreate it here in the UK. This baked ziti (or… baked penne?) is everything we love about Italian-American cooking — rich tomato sauce, creamy ricotta, melted cheese, and a dish designed to feed a whole family. But did it live up to the hype? And more importantly… did we get it right? 🇺🇸 What is Baked Ziti? Baked ziti is a classic Italian-American pasta bake, often compared to lasagna but much easier to make. It’s typically made with: Ziti pasta (smooth tubes) Tomato-based meat sauce Ricotta, mozzarella, and parmesan Oven baked until golden and bubbling It’s a staple at: ✔ Family dinners ✔ Potlucks ✔ Big gatherings 🇬🇧 UK vs USA – The Pasta Problem In the UK, ziti isn’t widely available — so we substituted with penne. But here’s the debate… 👉 Does pasta shape really matter? 👉 Does penne hold more sauce? 👉 Or does ziti give a better baked texture?
