Brits Try American Whoopie Pies for the First Time… We Didn’t Expect This!

Today was all about baking memories together… 🇺🇸💛 In this heart-melting family episode, Nakita and Elana step into the kitchen to make a true American classic — Chocolate Whoopie Pies with Marshmallow Fluff filling — and it quickly turns into one of our sweetest (and messiest!) bakes yet. For those new to Whoopie Pies, they sit somewhere between a cake, a cookie, and a sandwich — two soft chocolate cake rounds filled with a creamy, fluffy centre designed to be eaten by hand. No knife. No fork. Just pure comfort food. These iconic American treats are deeply rooted in the Northeastern United States — especially Pennsylvania, Maine, and New England — with many tracing their origins to Amish baking traditions. Legend has it that when children opened their lunchboxes and saw these inside, they shouted “Whoopee!” — and the name stuck. Whether that story is true or not… we were definitely shouting Whoopee by the end of this bake. 🍫 WHAT WE MADE We followed a traditional chocolate Whoopie Pie recipe inspired by Devil’s Food Cake, creating rich, soft cake rounds paired with a classic marshmallow buttercream made using authentic American Marshmallow Fluff (imported especially for this video!). Expect: • Soft chocolate cake shells • Sweet, fluffy marshmallow filling • Handheld dessert perfection • A LOT of sticky fingers And yes… plenty of taste testing along the way 👀 👩‍👧 NAKITA & ELANA’S VERDICT This one turned into such a special Mum & Daughter baking moment. From mixing the batter… To getting covered in Marshmallow Fluff… To assemble the giant sandwich pies… And of course — the all-important first bite reaction. Elana absolutely LOVED them (you’ll hear her rating loud and clear 😂)… while Nakita had slightly different thoughts on the sweetness level.
