In this video I tested the Plimpton L3 portable wireless CarPlay screen, and it’s basically made for anyone with an older car that doesn’t have CarPlay built in. I unboxed everything first (packaging honestly reminded me of Apple), then showed what you actually get: the 10.36-inch touchscreen unit, a rear backup camera, a cigarette lighter power adapter, mounts, cables, and it even comes with a micro SD card—which is a nice touch since a lot of these make you buy one separately. The big bonus here is the dash cam built into the back of the screen, so you’re adding CarPlay and a dash cam at the same time. I installed it in my 2014 Ford Fusion, mounted it on the dash, and walked through setup. Pairing was incredibly easy: connect Bluetooth (it showed up as something like “F900”), confirm CarPlay, and you’re in. I tested Maps while driving and overall it felt like real Apple CarPlay—there’s a little bit of screen lag, but it wasn’t bad. I also showed how to switch over to screen mirroring (AirPlay/MirrorCast style): you turn off CarPlay, connect to the unit’s Wi‑Fi signal, and then you can mirror your phone to watch videos while parked. My takeaway: lots of features, a high-quality screen, and a really solid option if you want CarPlay without swapping your head unit.
