Lone Elk Park has been a long standing tradition in our family. We visit on our drives through STL, on special occasions & sometimes even on our lunch breaks! Brad & I have both been going to Lone Elk Park since we were kids. I remember when they had Longhorn Rams in the 90's - and I think there is even a photo of me with one somewhere.... We have been taking our girls to Lone Elk Park since they were babies. Seeing the excitement in their eyes while they search the woodline for life is so amazing. One of the best features of this STL County Park? It's completely FREE!! (although donations are accepted & appreciated.) We did not see any springtime babies - YET - so we will have to make another trip soon. Keep an eye on our Instagram @miles_from_missouri for updates on our next visit! On this trip we also decided to visit the World Bird Sanctuary, which the girls & Brad had never been to! This location has FREE entry & $8 parking. There is a gift shop, restrooms, playground & picnic area for visitors to explore as well as a nature center (which wasn't open at the time of our visit.) World Bird Sanctuary rests peacefully on 305 acres of Missouri hardwood forest, next door to Lone Elk County Park and the Chubb Trail. We feature free seasonal shows, nature trails, educational programs and picnic pavilions. Our large outdoor avian exhibits provide housing for a variety of World Bird Sanctuary’s non-releasable birds. We also rehabilitate injured birds of prey at our on-site Wildlife Hospital. *World Bird Sanctuary Lone Elk Park: https://stlouiscountymo.gov/st-louis-county-departments/parks/places/lone-elk-park/ World Bird Sanctuary: https://www.worldbirdsanctuary.org/
