Hey campers—this was our first day in Jefferson City, Missouri (aka Jeff City), and we kicked it off exactly how we like to travel: budget-friendly, family-friendly, and packed with stuff you can actually do without spending a fortune. We had to audible right out of the gate and hit Central Dairy first because they were closing, and I’m glad we did. I went waffle cone (because that’s what I love the most) with coffee on the bottom and Caribou Tracks on top, and it was super rich without being too strong. Also… the prices? I’m still kind of dumbfounded. After that, we headed to the main event—the Missouri State Capitol. We booked our tour for free online ahead of time, and it was 100% worth it. Our guide Henry was extremely knowledgeable, kept the kids engaged, and we even got into the lounge that’s almost never open. When we finished the tour, we wandered the building and grounds for hours—murals, memorials, interactive exhibits, and just a ton of Missouri history. We wrapped the day with two local stops: Arris’ Pizza (buffet right across from the Capitol) and Cork & Board on High Street. Cork & Board was one of those places you don’t want to leave—board games, chill vibes, and they don’t rush you out the door. If you’re planning a Jeff City day trip, this is a really solid “go learn something, eat something, and have fun” kind of day.
