We started our day hiking Cataract Falls, a 0.1 mile packed dirt trail near the Sugarlands Visitor Center. This trail is flat, short & has an amazing payoff. The falls at the end of the trail were cool, clear & flowing! This trail does have exposed roots & rocks - so if you're traveling with someone with mobility issues, make sure to help them navigate these parts. Overall this trail was very easy for our family - the girls loved it & Zoey actually said "This trail was short - maybe too short!" After the hike, we visited the Sugarlands Visitor Center so the kids could grab their Jr. Ranger Books (FYI: GSMNP charges around $3 for the Jr. Ranger book since there is not an entrance fee into the park) to earn their Jr. Ranger Badges! After the kids were sworn in as Jr. Rangers, we headed to Roaring Fork Motor Trail for a drive through the trees. A warning about this drive - it is EXTREMELY narrow, many people park on the side of the road to access trails - and there are only TWO mountain lookouts on this drive. If you're headed out to hike this would be a great spot, but if you are just looking for a relaxing drive - check out Cades Cove instead. For dinner, we headed to The Old Mill in Pigeon Forge. This is a must stop for our family when we visit the area. Located inside a historic grist mill, this Cracker Barrel-ish restaurant serves home cooked meals that fill your tummy & warm your soul. Our fav are the hushpuppies & the corn chowder! YUM! Stay tuned for the next episode as we explore more of the Smoky Mountains & all it has to offer!
