About This Video

Another day, another ornament!! In this video I walk you through how I make my Christmas tree ornaments using a super simple hand-building approach. I’m a pottery hobby addict out here in rural Canada, and I love projects like this because they’re quick, seasonal, and honestly just really satisfying to batch-make. I also mention that you can absolutely do this with regular pottery clay, but it can be done with air dry clay too if you want an even quicker project. I cover the basic process and the little choices that make ornaments actually work on a tree—like keeping things a consistent thickness, making clean holes for hanging, and planning ahead for hardware. If you’re making these in ceramic, you’ll also want to think about how they’ll be hung after firing, and I share the hooks I use for that. If you try this tutorial, let me know what you think in the comments—especially if you swap in air dry clay or put your own twist on the shapes.
