Kiln opening day is honestly my favourite kind of chaos, and this unload was one of the most colourful I’ve had in a long time. In this video I’m sharing all the glaze combos that came out of this firing—what worked, what surprised me, and the pieces that made me want to immediately mix up more test batches. If you love glaze experiments (or you’re trying to get more confident layering at cone 6), this one is basically a big, happy show-and-tell straight from my rural Canadian studio. I also share my firing schedule because I know everyone always asks: I fire to a top temp of 2190 with a 9 minute hold, then I slow drop to 1900 with a 30 minute hold, and for me that lands a beautiful cone 6. The big takeaway though is that every kiln is different—my “perfect cone 6” might not be yours—so testing is absolutely necessary if you want consistent results.
