It’s Sunday night in Singapore (just past 8:30pm) and I’m back on a livestream to start my next nano project. Before I get into the scape, I also show you my recent “Super Tree” aquascape inspired by Gardens by the Bay (SG60), plus a quick look at my betta tank and shrimp activity (yes, baby shrimps everywhere). For this livestream, I’m setting up a cute Dutch tank—meaning it’s all plants and no hardscape. I start by building a proper slope (always slope your substrate backwards), cap it with aquasoil, and keep everything moist before planting. Then I go background to foreground: Rotala blood red (my favorite stem plant), Bacopa salzmannii purple (I really want that purple to pop), Rotala wallichii, Alternanthera reineckii mini, Blyxa japonica (first time trying), Hydrophila araguaia, and the special Hydrophila sp. “Chai” that was discovered in Singapore. Main takeaway: plant deep so nothing floats when you fill the tank, and be patient—Dutch tanks take a couple months to really come together.
