Ever since I was a kid, life felt like a streamlined path from point A to point B: school, university, then job. I set huge milestone goals to keep me motivated—ATAR, getting into my dream uni, and now the next looming one: landing an internship as a penultimate year university student. The problem is I wasn’t willing to give up my routine for the supposedly “better” parts of uni—people, experiences, community—because I was scared of the consequences of falling out of consistency. And that’s where the burnout creeps in: it becomes a non-stop cycle of work and uni with nothing to look forward to. Watching a video called “why my life is boring on purpose” hit hard, especially the Seth Godin quote: instead of wondering when your next vacation is, set up a life you don’t need to escape from. So I’m asking you the same question I end on: what do you actually look forward to?
