About This Video

Hey guys, in this video I show you my best method to do free and unlimited automatic transcription using a Virtual Audio Cable plus Microsoft Word. The idea is simple: I route my system audio through VB-Audio’s Virtual Cable, then I use Word Online’s Dictate feature to “listen” to that audio and type it out automatically. I walk you through downloading the right cable for your OS, installing it (run as administrator), and then setting your Windows sound settings so the system output is set to Cable Input and the system input is set to Cable Output. After that, I open Word on office.com (because the transcription/dictation option is available in the online version), choose my spoken language, select Cable Output as the microphone, and then play any audio/video file. Word starts transcribing in real time. Accuracy is pretty good, but like every tool, it will make some errors—so I also show a clean workflow to fix mistakes using Descript. I copy the Word transcript into Descript, sync it with the audio, run “detect transcription errors,” and use the correction wizard to review and fix the underlined words quickly, then export the final text with the formatting and timestamps you want.
