In this video, I show you my favorite way to transcribe ANY audio or video file for free—without installing any software. I use Clipchamp (Microsoft’s online video editor) to generate automatic captions in minutes, in basically any language, and you can even do it from your smartphone. I walk you through the exact steps: sign in to clipchamp.com, create a new video, import your file, add it to the timeline, then turn on Auto Captions and choose the correct language (I use English (India) since I speak Indian English). Clipchamp gives you an AI-generated transcript that’s surprisingly accurate, but I also explain why you should still review it depending on your audio quality. If your file is short, you can fix mistakes directly inside Clipchamp. But for longer files, I recommend copying the whole transcript (CTRL+A, CTRL+C) and editing it inside Descript (also available online). In Descript, I show how to import the transcript, sync it with the audio, and then edit super fast using keyboard shortcuts like C (correct), X (punctuation), and Z (upper/lowercase). I also demo the beta “magic wand” that highlights potential errors so you can review them quickly and make your transcript clean and error-free.
