In this video, I show you how to convert plain text into real, human-like voice audio for absolutely free using Descript. I start by creating a new project (I named mine “Overdub Live Demo”), then I paste in a short script and explain one important thing: your text must be properly punctuated. If you don’t add commas and periods where needed, the Overdub feature won’t work correctly. After that, I walk you through Descript’s Overdub voices—how to add a speaker, preview voices, and pick from the available options (there are 8 voices). I personally choose “Don” as my favorite, and then I show how you can assign a speaker to different paragraphs and even select different tones/emotions (one voice can have multiple tones). I also add a second speaker (“Emily”) and select a tone like “formal 3” so you can hear how multiple voices sound together. Finally, I show how to export the generated voiceover as an audio file (File → Export → Audio), keep the default settings, and save it on your device.
