After moving into our new house, the master bedroom was one of those spaces that just didn’t feel finished—so I tackled it like I would any clean desk setup: start with the big functional upgrades, then dial in the details. In this video I walk through the full master bedroom makeover, from swapping furniture and decor to adding smart home touches that make the room feel way more “set and forget.” One of the biggest quality-of-life upgrades was installing Yoolax smart shades, so I can control light and privacy without getting up—especially nice first thing in the morning or at night. The main DIY build in this makeover is my custom IKEA nightstand using the IKEA Rast drawers. I show the steps I used to make them look way more high-end: adding cane webbing for texture, trimming them out with pine strips, and finishing the look with black handles. I also cover the tools that made the job easier (table saw, miter saw, stapler, brad nailer, sander), plus a few tips and tricks so you can get clean lines and a solid finish without overcomplicating it.
