About This Video

In Part 2 of my smart home series, I walk you through three upgrades I’ve been testing that made an immediate difference in day-to-day life: smart window shades, a smart thermostat, and a robot vacuum. The whole point for me isn’t “smart for the sake of smart”—it’s automations that actually remove little annoyances and make the house feel like it’s helping you out instead of adding more apps to manage. First, I get into smart blinds (I’m using Smart Wings) and how pairing them with Alexa devices like an Echo or Echo Dot makes routines super simple—think scheduled open/close times or voice control when your hands are full. Then I move to the Nest thermostat, where I focus on the practical side of installation and safety (a voltage tester is your friend) and why a smart thermostat is one of the fastest ways to make your home feel more “set it and forget it.” Finally, I show how I’m using a Shark ION robot vacuum to keep floors under control with minimal effort. If you’re building a smart home, these are three areas where automation pays you back every single day.
