About This Video

In this video I check out the Fiio RR11, which is basically Fiio’s modern interpretation of those vintage portable FM radios. Fiio’s been going pretty nostalgic lately (CD player, turntable, cassette player), and the RR11 fits right in. I go through the unboxing, what’s included (manual, the RR11, some super lightweight plasticy earbuds, foams, charging cable, and a special DAC cable), then I do a full exterior overview—tuning wheel, volume knob, reception lights, band selector, and the “Magic Bass” slider that’s clearly paying homage to Sony’s Mega Bass. What stood out to me is that it’s not just a carbon copy of the old Sony Walkman radios. The tuning wheel and volume knob are way nicer to use than the old flimsy plastic wheels, and the reception/stereo indicators make it feel more modern and functional. Sound-wise, it sounds as good as radios can sound—FM is usually compressed anyway—but it works flawlessly and gets very loud with most IEMs and headphones (I even tried the Hifiman Ananda Stealth). The hidden function for me is using the RR11 as a burn-in device. You can tune to a station and let it run, or tune to no signal and play white noise, all while keeping it charged—way simpler than relying on a phone or dongle that might stop playback mid-process. Overall it’s a solid, well-designed niche product, especially if you want that nostalgic “tuning in” experience or a set-and-forget burn-in box.
