In this video I unbox and share my first impressions of the Meze Audio 99 Classics V2 (2nd Gen). I walk through the packaging, accessories, and what’s actually new here—because this isn’t just a cosmetic refresh. You still get the neat hard shell zippered case, plus paperwork, stickers, and a new set of acoustic absorbers that let you tame a bit of treble energy to make the V2 warmer. Inside the case there’s also the cable, a 1/4" adapter, and even a dongle DAC so you can run them from your phone. Then I go over the physical and spec changes: impedance drops from 32 ohms to 16 ohms while keeping 103 dB sensitivity, so they’re easier to drive. The walnut cups are slightly larger with more internal volume for better bass control, the connectors are widened for aftermarket cables, and there’s a small bass port near the connector. Meze also switched to clip-on pads, which makes swapping pads and using the absorbers quicker. For sound, I compare it to what I remember from the original 99 Classics V1 from about five years ago, and also to my HD25. The V2 comes across more mature and more neutral, with cleaner, more refined bass that doesn’t bleed into the mids like I remember the V1 doing. Comfort and isolation are excellent, and honestly these might replace my HD25 as my everyday closed-back.
